This site and its forums are sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration for the purpose of promoting our Benedictine and Congregational charism and for the spiritual growth and development of Benedictine Oblates.

This forum is open to Benedictine Oblates, professed Benedictines, and those interested in becoming Benedictine Oblates. Therefore, users of the forums will be held to a standard of conduct and behavior in keeping with the values of the Gospel, Benedictine hospitality, and civil discourse., its sponsor, administrators, and moderators reserve the right to delete posts and/or whole conversations determined to be irrelevant, abusive, or disruptive in nature. Posts derogatory toward any person, religious community, or representatives of the Roman Catholic Church are not acceptable and will be removed.

By using this web site you agree to be contacted by site administration or forum moderators when it is necessary to do so regarding your account activity or posts.

Forum “Netiquette” Guidelines and Rules

Netiquette refers to the generally accepted rules of behavior for communicating in an online environment. This list will serve as a general overview of these rules for use in the forums.

  1. Use standard lower-case and capital letters in postings to the forums.
  2. It is considered shouting if you post replies in all CAPs. This action is considered rude.
  3. When quoting someone else, post a portion of the original message for reference. It is not necessary to post the entire contents of the original message, but just enough to provide context for your reply.
  4. Take care with what you say in your posting. This information is public and can be easily forwarded or copied and pasted. Your words can come back to haunt you.
  5. Express your thoughts clearly and concisely.
  6. Be careful when using sarcasm and humor. Internet communications are very impersonal and others may take your words as criticism. “Emoticons” are a widely accepted way of differentiating humor and sarcasm from serious comments. Examples of emoticons are:
    smile = :)     frown = :(        wink = ; )
  7. Be judicious in your use of emoticons and avoid excessive punctuation (e.g.! and ?) in topic titles and posts.
  8. Be courteous and respectful of other people. If you use abusive or offensive language, you will be blocked from the forums.
  9. Observe the laws of copyright. Provide links to other sources, rather than posting lengthy quotes.
  10. Before posting to the forum, please read your message and look for the following:
    • Does the message convey what you want to say correctly and appropriately?
    • Be your own editor. Correct any spelling errors and typos you find that make your post difficult to read or understand.
    • Use common sense. Is this message one that you would want to read or receive? Would you understand it if you were to go back and read it a week later?
  11. If you notice off-topic or inappropriate posts, please contact the administrator with your concerns.
  12. You agree that you will be the sole user of your account and agree to keep your account login and password private. You will be responsible for all activity on your account.
  13. Because site administrators and moderators are not multi-lingual, all posts are limited to the English language.
  14. The forum may be used only for non-commercial purposes. No advertising, marketing, spam, or promotional material or messages are permitted.
