Sand Springs Oblate News

Osage+Monastery Closing: While the monastery will be officially closing on Apr. 21st the O+M oblates will now be officially affiliated with our Motherhouse, Clyde Monastery but will continue in the Forest of Peace as a Deanery. Monthly meetings will be held as usual with a secretary appointed from among the group. They will elect a moderator to lead the meetings. Sr. Pascaline will remain Oblate Director of the Osage oblates now affiliated with our monastery at Clyde, Mo. She will come to the monthly meetings 2-3 times annually and will host the Candidate and Oblate Receptions during one of those visits.

The O+M oblates number 93 at present though many of these now live out of town. Usually 20 – 25 attend the monthly meetings at O+M. There is also a Deanery of the group that meets in Dallas, Tx. And occasionally one or another have attended the O+M monthly meetings.

The book being shared with the local group, chosen by the Oblates, as of March 1st is Living in the Truth: St. Benedict's Teaching on Humility by Michael Casey.

Benedictine Oblates at O+M:  Lay Christians who seek spiritual affiliation with our monastic community in the Forest of Peace for mutual enrichment are invited to:

  1. Contact the local Oblate director for information directly or by mail or email.
  2. Apply for acceptance as an Oblate candidate.  A ritual for a group of candidates is usually arranged in the presence of the community. This enrollment is for one year during which one studies the spirit and values of St. Benedict under the guidance of the Oblate Director using the Rule of St.Benedict, given during the reception, as guide.
  3. Oblation may be requested after the director and candidate discern readiness at the end of the year of Candidacy.  Reception of Oblates is again celebrated in the presence of the monastic community.  A certificate of Oblation is given at this time together with the Oblate emblem of our Congregation.

Monthly meetings with Oblates near the monastery are held on the first Sunday of each month after l0:30 AM Eucharist. A book for sharing at the meetings is chosen by the group.
